About Me

Howard Shapiro Judy Labow
The Namuwongo Literacy Project has, as its ultimate goal, the establishment of a ‘free-of-charge’, government recognized, full-time, co-educational, day school. The immediate goal is the increase in the number of pupils, school hours and Ugandan teachers. The Directors of the Namuwongo Literacy Project are Judy Labow and Howard Shapiro. During the summer of 2006, Ms. Labow led a team of educators volunteering in Namuwongo. This work led to the creation of the Namuwongo Literacy Project. In the summer of 2007, Howard Shapiro set in motion the ‘foundation’ necessary for the now sustainable Namuwongo Literacy Project.
